With deep gratitude and great sadness, we share news that we have closed the Debra S. Fish Early Childhood Resource Library. After decades of growing together, longstanding challenges for funding have made it unsustainable for us to continue to operate this beloved program.
Honoring Our Shared History
The Debra S. Fish Early Childhood Resource Library, a partner of Saint Paul Public Library, began as a seedling of resources in 1996, starting as a small closet at our organization’s location offering early childhood books and materials. Over the years — thanks to early funders, dedicated staff, and engaged early educators — our unique library grew into a statewide resource, supporting educators and families and advancing early learning.
What’s Next
The Debra S. Fish Early Childhood Resource library is now officially closed, and resources are no longer available for loan. We understand that items may still be in circulation with patrons. We are requesting that these be returned at the earliest convenience to:
- Any of the Saint Paul Public Library 14 locations, which can be found at sppl.org or your local Minnesota public library
- Our office at 10 Yorkton Ct., St. Paul, MN, either:
- Front Desk: during office hours, 9 a.m.–5 p.m., Monday–Friday, or
- Book Depository: white box at the front door, any time.
We are working on a transition plan over the next several months to find a new home for this valued collection.
In the meantime, we encourage all former Debra S. Fish Library patrons to stay connected to Saint Paul Public Library. Educators and families with a MN public library card may also discover other early childhood resources available in the Minnesota library system to be delivered to their local library. Using MNLink which can still be found on our website.
We realize this news is sudden and may cause disappointment or disruption—especially to early educators who have relied on these unique resources and personalized services. We recognize and honor the care, creativity, and dedication of our early childhood community.
Think Small remains a steadfast partner in early learning. We continue to:
- Offer affordable professional development and training,
- Provide culturally responsive tools, coaching, and guidance,
- Advocate alongside you for a stronger, more equitable early childhood system.
We remain dedicated to helping educators and children across Minnesota thrive.
