What is
agitprop?
Agitprop
is a combination of the words agitation and propaganda.
It describes socially-minded art intended to inspire real action.
Although some consider the term to be pejorative, the fact is that
artwork aimed at arousing the emotions and informing the intellect
has been effective in motivating people to improve their situations.
The world right now is in need of improvement. If you see something
which needs to change fast, it's up to you to share your vision.
Why posters?
Due to a variety of factors (media consolidation, niche programming,
force of habit, etc.), most people see only the information they choose
to see. Posters in the public domain have the ability to pierce people's
bubbles of selective perception by popping up when least expected.
Powerful images are needed today more than ever to shake people
out of their corporate media-induced apathy.
Posters, pamphlets, and leaflets were the sparks which ignited the
revolution in America 230 years ago. Today, posters remain a vital tool
for correcting government- and business-sponsored disinformation.
Remember: an ounce of truth trumps a ton of lies. |
